The newly appointed officials at the Office of the Ombudsman have been instructed to file their courtesy resignation within a week, under the issue of Ombudsman Jose Crispin Remulla, the new directive on Monday, October 27.

Remulla ordered that all appointed personnel between May 29 and July 27 be covered by the order dated October 22.

The order affects 99 officials, including two assistant ombudsmen, four directors, three graft investigation officers, 60 graft investigation and prosecution officers, and 30 assistant special prosecutors.

The salary grades of the said officials range from 25 to 29, and it has an equivalent of ₱111,727 to ₱180,492 in their monthly compensation. Before the retirement of former Ombudsman Samuel Martires in the month of July, the appointments had been made.

Ombudsman Remulla ordered them to voluntarily submit their courtesy resignation from the employees with a salary grade of 24 and below, or those earning ₱85,074 monthly.

“Until any action on the courtesy resignations is taken by the undersigned, all officials and employees named herein shall continue to report for work and perform their normal duties and responsibilities,” stated in the order.

As Remulla was officially appointed last October 9, he disclosed that they had identified 204 suspected ‘midnight appointees’ — the employees were hired before the end of former Ombudsman Martires’ term. They will ask those officials to reapply or to tender their resignations.
