New House Speaker vows to ‘clean up' Congress after Romualdez resigned Isabela 6th District Representative Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III has officially delivered his oath on Wednesday, September 17, after being elected as the new House Speaker of the 20th Congress.
He will be replacing Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez, who just stepped down from the seat due to issues linking him to flood control project controversies.
Dy's speech highlights how the Congress wants to regain the trust of the public after some members of the House of Representatives are allegedly connected to the flood control project scandal.
“Ako po ay kaisa ng ating mahal na Pangulo sa kaniyang layunin na linisin ang pamahalaan upang tayo ay bumangon muli,” he stated. “Under my leadership, this house will change,” he added.
On the other hand, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos slams Davao City Representative Paulo Duterte, who said that votes for Dy were just a ‘cover up,' for Sandro, who 'chose Dy.'
“Kung nagpakita sana siya rito sa trabaho at sa session, baka makikita rin niya, but I'm sure he is busy looking for the P51 billion,” Marcos responded.
Dy topped the election with 253 positive votes from lawmakers, 28 abstentions, and zero negative votes. Among the 28 who abstained is Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga, who openly expressed interest in the House Speaker seat.
Nobody nominated Barzaga during the plenary, Dy is the sole nominee for the said post.
