MALOLOS, Bulacan—Governor Daniel Fernando firmly reaffirms his innocence surrounding the anomalous flood control projects in Bulacan during a general assembly for his scholarship program "Tulong Pang-edukasyon para sa Bulakenyo" on Friday, October 3, at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Pavilion.
During his speech, the governor addressed the controversial flood control projects, reaffirming that he was unaware of their implementation in the province.
Addressing the current rallies and criticisms, Governor Fernando appealed for understanding; "Bago tayo sumigaw nang sumigaw ng mga salitang masasakit sa mga kapwa natin, isipin muna nating mabuti kung totoo ba 'yon o hindi," he said, admitting that the controversies have taken an emotional toll on him.
He added that even the other local leaders, such as mayors and governors outside Bulacan, were also unaware of the projects, citing Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte as one of his examples.
The governor also highlighted his long-term solution against Bulacan flooding, the Mega Dike Project.
According to him, it is a joint proposal with the governors of Bataan and Pampanga.
The Mega Dike is a coastal flood control that stretches from Bataan to Cavite, aiming to protect coastal towns in Bulacan against high-tide flooding, as it is one of the main reasons for the recurring flooding in the province.
The governor concluded by reaffirming his dedication to accountability and genuine public service, vowing to pursue flood control measures that truly safeguard Bulacan communities.
