Statement of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on the misinformation connecting them to Orly Guteza, posted on Facebook yesterday, September 26.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) addressed the disinformation circulating on social media concerning a former aide of Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co, in a statement issued yesterday, September 26.
The AFP clarified that claims that allege Orly Guteza, a retired Marine, as an active-duty Marine involved in illicit activities are false.
On Thursday, September 25, Guteza testified to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that he personally delivered luggages of money, codenamed as ‘basura’ (garbage), to the residences of Zaldy Co and Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
"FACT: The individual mentioned, Mr. Orly Guteza, has been a civilian since his retirement on June 30, 2020. His private work for a legislator began four years later in 2024. The central claim is chronologically impossible and therefore fabricated," AFP’s statement read.
They also addressed posts misrepresenting a photo of AFP officials with the former House Speaker, explaining that it was only a standard courtesy call, and not any improper allegiance.
“These are clear attempts to sow doubt and erode trust in your Armed Forces. The AFP remains a professional and disciplined organization serving the Filipino people with honor and integrity,” the statement added.
In the released statement, they emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims that could undermine national security efforts.
Co and Romualdez denied receiving kickbacks from the flood control scandal; Guteza’s affidavit passed to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee was also proven to be falsely notarized.
